Postdoctoral Researcher (LCA specialist)
Rothamsted Research
NICCEE Team: Information

I hold a PhD in Agricultural and Food Science and Technology from the University of Lleida, Spain, in 2022. My doctoral research centred on modelling Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) dynamics and GHG emissions across various agricultural land uses and environmental conditions. Specifically, I investigated croplands and grasslands under diverse climatic regions, including the Mediterranean and humid temperate zones.
In 2022, I embarked on a new chapter of my academic journey as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Rothamsted. Here, I expanded upon my existing research by adopting a comprehensive approach known as the whole chain approach, which involves utilizing life cycle assessment (LCA) techniques to scrutinize emissions and sinks at the farm scale and beyond.
My focus extended to examining the environmental footprint of key agri-food commodities, particularly those pertinent to the UK's significant trading relations and characterized by consistent demand. Central to this endeavor was the identification of the most relevant agri-food system activities contributing to environmental impact indicators for each commodity. By elucidating common determinants of impacts that transcend individual products, I sought to pinpoint potential interventions or transformative changes to the food system beyond the farmgate. Through these initiatives, I endeavoured to contribute to the ongoing discourse on sustainable agricultural practices and mitigate the environmental footprint of the agri-food sector. These experiences have not only enriched my research portfolio but also underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing global challenges such as climate change and agriculture sustainability.
I possess a strong proficiency in a diverse array of technical skills essential for advanced research in Agricultural and Food Science. My expertise spans statistical analysis and programming, with proficiency in languages such as R and VBA. Additionally, I am adept at utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, including ArcMap and QGIS, to analyse spatial data effectively. Furthermore, I have extensive experience working with process-based Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) models, such as RothC, and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) models, including SimaPro. These skills enable me to conduct sophisticated analyses and simulations crucial for understanding complex agricultural systems and their environmental impacts. Moreover, my linguistic abilities extend to English, French, Spanish, and Arabic, as outlined in my resume. This multilingual proficiency enhances my capacity to collaborate with diverse research teams and engage with stakeholders from various cultural backgrounds effectively.
