Rothamsted Fertiliser Emissions Scenarios Tool (R-FEST)
We are pleased to highlight the launch of the new Rothamsted Fertiliser Emissions Scenarios Tool (R-FEST)!
This simple and interactive tool from NICCEE’s Yusheng Zhang and Adie Collins is designed to quantify emissions associated with chemical nitrogen fertilizer use across England.
Fertilizer application is central to modern food production, but it also contributes significantly to climate change and energy use. As fertilizer production technologies and on-farm practices evolve (including modular green ammonia systems), there is a growing need for spatially explicit, scenario-based evidence to support strategic planning and policy decisions.
R-FEST allows users to:
- Explore Business-As-Usual (BAU) and customized scenarios
- Specify fertilizer products, production technologies, application rates, coverage, and management practices
- Quantify emissions to air (N₂O, CO₂, NH₃) and water (NO₃)
- Assess impacts at water management catchment (WMC) scale
